Renowned Swedish sports and leisure brand STIGA Sports, headquartered in Eskilstuna, is not resting on its laurels. June sees the opening of the globally respected company's first showroom, strategically located on Stockholm's parade boulevard Götgatan. And in the longer term, there are also plans for an IPO.
"STIGA Sport's main disciplines of table tennis, padel, table ice hockey, snow racing and the traditional scooter are very timely," says CEO Andreas Zandrén. "We have a long history of co-operation with the top players in table tennis and other racket sports. At the same time, over the past decade, ping pong has made a triumphant return to the so-called "inner circles" in world metropolises such as Los Angeles and New York, which has opened up the possibility of targeting an even broader international audience. Establishing a showroom in the heart of one of the world's most trend-sensitive neighbourhoods is a first step in this direction. "
Almost exactly five years ago today, the investment company Swedia Capital AB became half owner of STIGA Sports.
"We saw enormous potential in this well-managed family business, and the fact that my father and business partner Staffan Persson has also been an enthusiastic table tennis player since his early youth, with a warm relationship with STIGA's tables and rackets, also contributed emotionally to our investment," says Swedia Capital's Fredrik Persson in a statement, and continues: "For some time now, we have been discussing with the Bandstigen family, which owns the other half of the company, about making STIGA Sports available to everyone in the not too distant future through an IPO."
The Bandstigen family, represented here by second and third generation owners Ankie and John, adds:
"The proposal to open up a broader ownership through an IPO has of course been preceded by detailed discussions within the family. After careful consideration, we have jointly come to the conclusion that this is a favourable solution for all parties. For us in the family, it is a matter of the heart that through this we increase the visibility and interest in our strong brand; both locally and internationally."
